Smart Gilas Philippines Defeated South Korea of FIBA Asia 2013

The team Philippines will advance to the finals in FIBA Asia 2013 after defeating South Korea in a classic and passionate game. From start to the end it was a heart pounding game as the fans would seemingly enjoy every bit of action. Before Smart Gilas would face Iran in the Championship match they have to face a familiar foe in the court.

This rivalry  between Philippines and Korea has been one of the best games that FIBA Asia would have. Ever since from the start when these two teams collide you would expect one of the most thrilling games you will ever see.

Philippines men's basketball would always come up short when they are facing South Korea. And history tells it all from heart breaking loss to those controversial scenarios.

But this time it was different when the Philippine team would be relentless. Playing with a big heart and a hunger to peel off from those bitter past short comings.

For the past encounters between this two nations heart breaking loss are always felt by the Filipinos. All those bitter and heart fainting loss before just flashed out from my head.

Those memories were in clutch and crucial moments that could make your mouth shiver. How many times did South Korea bash the Filipino mens basketball team with in your face defeats. And for this game I thought it would be the same ending.

As soon as the game started the Philippines were troubled and were facing tremendous pressure. Naturalize player Marcus Douthit was forced to sit on the bench due to his injury as early as the first quarter. Other big men of the Philippines were also facing mild injuries such as De Ocampo and Pingris.

But the team played all out and gave all what they have. A very exciting game from start to finish neither each team would not give up. Both team would showcase their respond to whatever the opponent would bring into the court. From 3 points to jump shots and even blitz fast break points both of them would implement that.

The Philippine team being undersized would try to tight up their defense. Marc Pingris would take those rebounds while limping with his injury. While Jason Castro would set on an offensive blaze and rally to give Gilas the lead.

On the ending part of the game more comrades from Gilas would step up and contirbute. Ranidel De Ocampo would be the coolest guy that would execute his offense. Every play he makes would be as smooth as he make his offense work.

South Korea would hang on and could convert a 4 point play courtesy of Kim Min-Goo(#4) so the score is 73-72 in the dying minutes of the 4th quarter.  And then Gilas could not answer back with their own play while a fast break dunk was executed by LEE SJ. So when the Koreans took the lead(74-73) and all I can say was that "Here we go again..... a choke ending". 

On the returning play of Gilas they still can't convert and a foul was called on Pingris. Lee Seung-Jun(#14) would split his free throws so the score would be 75-73. Silence was felt inside the arena and seemingly worried faces are a common sight.

But In respond with the score 75-73 Mark Pingris shot that was suppose to be a goal tending. Instead the officials would not count it and Gilas would have the ball possession.

After the inbound Alapag would drill a 3 point shot after a successful screen that would give Gilas a 1 point lead. 75-76. But South Korea would respond at the other end when Kim Tae-Sool(#7) made his jump shot giving Korea another lead 77-76.

Ranidel De Ocampo would once again contribute after making a successful layup now the score is 78-77 in favor of Gilas. On the returning play Pingris would steal the ball after the Koreans failed to make a shot. On the other hand De Ocampo would drill a 3 point bomb after that steal giving Gilas a 4 point lead. 81-77.

Chants roar over the arena as fans jump off their feet with excitement. Excellent back to back play made by De Ocampo on defense and on offense.

With 1:14 mins left Yang Donggeun would be fouled on the returning play that would easily make his two free throws. (81-77)

1:10 mins left  and 6 seconds on the shot clock remaining. Bang! Jimmy Alapag would sink a cold blooded 3 point bomb stretching the lead and the score would be to 84-79.

Korea could not make another play on the returning end and from that moment broken hopes just vanished. As Jason Castro would cruise his way but would miss his layup. But Mark Pingris would clean his garbage and put back an easy two points.

An epic and classic ending that redeemed the nationals and brought both the players and fans to tears. But those tears weren't meant for sorrow endings but tears of joy and redemption.

Now Philippines would be participating the 2014 World cup so see you in Spain! :)

Gary David finally explodes! Gilas defeats Kazakhstan

Gary "El Granada" David had his best game on his life in the FIBA Asia 2013. The local hero finally explodes with his offense arsenal. Gary David started the game with an explosion sinking his first 3 shots beyond the arc. Every shot that Gary would make the crowd would roar louder.

Gilas would rally in the first quarter and pile up their lead easily. Gary David found his range and continued to explode his offensive arsenal. It took a while for Gary to get rid of his slum games when the Fiba Asia cup started.  The long awaited explosive needs that the fans were waiting finally happened in front of their eyes.

"Nagliliyab na kamay" Flaming hands said the commentator was also excited watching David's great performance. One of the most explosive players in PBA David Finally woke up and helped his team to win as the fans appreciated what he has done.

The benefit of shooting your basket consecutively is something that a player can build is confidence. Since as you keep making your shoot your confidence keeps on growing and developing. And that's what happened to Gary David's performance when he finally got his touch and game going on.

The stadium was like a pandemonium as each basket that Gary David would convert creates a louder chant. Gary David was able to establish his dominating performance and was the best player of the game finishing with 22 points.

Gilas would pull away this win with the final score 88-58. And would face Korea as they advance on the Semi-final round. Since Korea successfully defeated Qatar.

Jose Aldo Vs Korean Zombie

Jose Aldo is still the Feather weight champion when he finished the fight against korean zombie in round 3. Aldo immediately established his dominance as soon as he  ignited his attack. I was a bit surprised that Jose Aldo didn't throw a lot of leg kicks which usually his trade mark.

Aldo kept doing and throwing those punches which would also hit his enemy. Mean while Aldo would catch those flying knee's that the Korean Zombie would throw at him. At the same time Aldo would clip and take the korean zombie to the ground.

In round 3 when the korean zombie attempted to throw punch combinations accidentally dislocated his shoulder. While he was trying to recover Jose Aldo unleashed his counter attacks and that made Aldo the winner and retained his title.

Lyoto Machida vs Phil Davis

In my own opinion and based on the match I have watched it was clear that Machida won this fight. Phil Davis had a hard time taking down Machida since Lyoto's take down defense was just amazing. Machida would be able to defend and counter Davis take down attempts.

Davis had some successful take down but it had less value since he was not able to dominate his enemy on the ground. Davis was not able to do some damage as soon as he was able to take down Machida.

Davis take down's have less value since he was not able to capitalize and establish some ground and pound. Machida even defended the submission that Davis had attempted to perform.

At the same time Machida would land significant strikes from counter punches to those leg kicks. Especially that leg kick that keep on hitting Davis head.

Several Times Machida stunned Davis when Lyoto landed those kicks. And they hit the head of Davis which could have a huge damage and impact. Plus on this fight Machida was the aggressor seeing him trying to push the phase and dictate the fight.

Machida got robbed on this and it was clear and what's worse was that you saw he was really trying his best to improve. Plus he got robbed in front of his home crown in Brazil which was a huge slap in the face.

Jeepney chants

It was a rainy cold night when I was leaving home. I'm on my way to visit a colleague friend and also to have some "korom" time. While riding a multicab going to Parkmall this group of male singers suddenly started to introduce themselves inside the running vehicle. They start to have this same dialogue

"Ate kuya ayaw hugawa inyo huna-huna. Manganta rami dili me snatcher dili me kawatan...."

When they haven't made that introduction I knew it that they're some of those jeepney rappers. As they started caroling their composed rap I look away and ignored them. When they're done singing they would asked some money(cents) from the passengers. So I tend not to look at them and avoid eye contact so that they would think I am not interested. At the same time showing them that I don't really care and have no intention in giving some of my money(coins, cents).

When I arrived in parkmall I ride another jeepney having the route of Urgello Colon(01k). It was just in time that I was the last person to ride the jeepney parked in the terminal before it would leave. While the jeepney was running the rained poured hard.

The jeepney stopped after the driver to pulled over since a passenger was gonna ride. And suddenly a group of little girls immediately got inside the jeepney before we could leave. They're soaked in wet and probably around 4-5 years old.

I was thinking "Here we go again..another part of street rap and singing".  I knew it all along when they introduced themselves the same as those introduction that the first street rappers made few minutes ago.

I was gonna do the same thing and ignore them. But the moment they started singing it was a different thing And not even similar to those rapper boys so I started to listen to there chants. To my consent I was enjoying at it and started to stomp my feet secretly. While listening to their lyrics carefully realizing that these girls quite have a different gig.

They're singing a different theme and some of the passengers started laughing. The little girls entertained us by singing what they have composed but the lyrics were a bit funny. As I recall some the lyrics goes like this:

"Mga Kuya pina pilit ang hinapay pero torpe"
"Mga Ate baga og make up pero dili d i mga Babae"

All along while these girls were singing I was nodding my head and appreciated what they have done. And after what they have performed. It convinced me to gave them some of my few coins. I didn't hesitate since I knew these girls would use the money to buy food or give some to their parents.

Not like those first group composed of 3 boys were in you could think how they will spend their earnings. Probably spend it on drugs(meth, dope, solvent). Too bad I left my cellphone at home since it was raining. I could have recorded that funny but unforgettable experience.

Note: After the wave purchase another sentry gun and place it inside the souvenir shop.  And also replace your hand gun with the MP5s Weapon.

Note: In my case I use The shotgun to kill this juggernaut it should take 6-7 shots if you aim it on the head.

Note: After this wave I would replace my shotgun with the AK45 Weapon so I have MP5 and AK as my two weapons.

13 - AK47s and suicide Bombers
14 - AK47s and suicide Bombers  + 2 dogs
Note: After this wave I would purchase 10 C4, 10 Claymore, granades and flashbang.

15 - 2 juggernauts
Note: I would use 5 C4 to kill two instant Juggernauts.

Note: after this wave I would replace my MP5 Weapon with the ACR

17 - ACRs
18 - ACRs, suicide Bombers
19 - ACRs, suicide Bombers, 3 dogs
20 - 2 regular juggernauts + 1 riot juggernaut
Note: During this wave I would use 6 C4 to kill the 3 juggernaut but you have to have the right timing. You need to put them in a single place all at the same time so that when the C4 explodes they will be all killed.

21 - FADs
22 - FADs + claymore placing PM-9s
Note: After this wave I would purchase a PKP Machine Gun. And I would upgrade it and purchase the GRIP and RED DOT for enhancement. I would use this machine gun to kill the chopper and also as a backup gun if I ran out of ammo using my primary weapon.

I would also place C4 at the back of the souvenir shop since some enemies would use the back door and sneak there.

23 - FADs + PM-9s + suicide C4ers + 1 chopper
Note: During this waves that there is a chopper I would kill the chopper last since this gives me time to run freely to the markets. I am able to run and hide while purchasing what I need(Self revive, Claymore, C4, Grenade, Ammo, Flashbang)

24 - FADs + PM-9s + suicide C4ers + 1 chopper + dogs with C4
25 - FADs + PM-9s + suicide C4ers + 1 chopper + dogs with C4
Note: After this wave I would purchase a riot team squad and an airstrike. I would also place claymore's all over the place to kill some incoming enemies at our rally point.

26 - 2 juggernauts, 1 riot juggernaut + FADs
Note: I would use the air strike when the enemies are closing in and especially when the juggernauts are approaching. I would throw first the flash bang then the smoke grenade to signal the air strike.

This was the last time I played wave 37 i forgot to press ESCAPE when I had a phone call. Too bad I died =(

Early bitterness of learning.

It's rainy season once again and going to school would be a day to day struggle for most of the kids living in Philippines. During these times many would suffer including kids and those who  are living near canals and other areas where water can immediately rise. I myself experienced worst case scenario during heavy and unexpected rains.

Water would overflow and get inside your house as quickly as 5 mins. Polluted water would fill  the drainage system and those houses nearby river banks would get flooded in an instant.

Polluted water that would knock on your door but also garbage's and also both human/animal waste.

Children would suffer from this kind of situations as they can't focus on their studies. Since they are distracted by the bitter reality that sorrounds them.

Kids would be soaked in wet together with their bag and school supplies.

Another problem would be the electric shortage to other places. Kids would study using candles or lamp.

 As they try to review their notes or do their assignment on the pitch-black environment.

Others would do it as soon as they arrive in school with a dim light.

As the pages of their books and notebooks would curl and the content would fade because they are all wet. The lack of these supplies would be another hindrance to quality education.

Unfortunately few kids would not get adequate and proper education. Some of them would even share books with others during classes.

One book would be shared with 3 to 4 kids during on-going class discussions. The hardships that these kids have encountered should be attended. They deserve some attention since as young as their age they settle to half bake learning system.  It's just unfair for them to have been treated like this.

Rainy days would be a huge problem especially if the school is quite far.

Kids from those provinces would travel at least 30 mins of walking just to reach their Alma Mater.

And when it rains you would usually see them on parade using banana leaves to comfort them and keep them dry.

As they march together with their neighbors going to school and talk about random things.

As they trick their minds on ignore both the weather and the obstacle terrain that they are going through.

When they arrive in school expect wet socks with dirt on their feet. And that would be the first thing that you would see. Some who are wearing sleepers have mud all over their feet(lucky for them they will just wash it off).

How hard for these kids to absorb knowledge despite these resources that they have. How fragile they can go as they continue to learn things the hard way.

As these kids would grow and sooner they would realize how they spent their childhood. They would just look back and start to think all over again how things happened quickly during those youthful and innocent era.
