Recently, the city of Cebu was recognized as the first city to be ever given the title of “City of Culture” by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This prestigious recognition was given to the city due to its rich heritage and culture. Upon the recognition, local government organizations planned to create a yearlong activities that will address and give credit to the said award. Government officials said that the activities would include lectures about Cebu’s history, artistic and literary forums, culture and heritage discussions and many more.
Promoting art and culture through its cities is the goal of the ASEAN upon giving the award as City of Culture to Cebu. The organization hope to encourage other cities too in participating with the said program and hope to strengthen the bonds between countries within the ASEAN nations.
